Manzanar Pilgrimage — Former prisoners, their families and a diverse group of supporters traveled Saturday, April 24, 2010, to Manzanar, California, the site of the prison camp that held 11,070 Japanese Americans during WWII.

Lone Pine, Alabama Hills, Whitney Portal, Lancaster
Former prisoners, their families and a diverse group of supporters traveled Saturday, April 24, 2010, to Manzanar, California, the site of the prison camp that held 11,070 Japanese Americans during WWII. Around five hundred people participated in the annual pilgrimage including members of Japanese American and Muslim organizations, multiple bus loads from Los Angeles and Sacramento, area high school and college students and former prisoners from as far away as Virginia.

Children pose behind the obelisk at the Manzanar cemetery, burial place of over one hundred prisoners who died at the former World War II concentration camp for Japanese Americans. The kids hold a string of origami cranes and a portrait of their grandmother who was unable to attend the annual pilgrimage.
