Gardena High School remains under lockdown Saturday, January 18, 2011, hours after a student's gun accidentally discharged, hitting two classmates, including one with critical head injuries.

Students walk between buildings at Gardena High School on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, while the campus is locked down by police. Police sealed off the area following the accidental discharge of a student's gun that injured two classmates, including one with critical head injuries.

The Gardena Police establish a perimeter sealing off the campus. An officer looks toward campus from her position north of the school at 177th Street.

LAPD Deputy Chief Patrick Gannon briefs the media and local residents at the command center south of the campus. Gannan asserts that one round from a gun inside a student's backpack was accidentally discharged when the student dropped his backpack onto a desk.
