About the photographerBrian Minami, professional photographer, provides high quality digital photography for commercial, editorial and fine art applications. He also shoots portraits, headshots for actors and portfolios for models in Los Angeles. Brian learned photography as a teenager in the 1980's following the California landscape tradition of large format black and white photography. After moving to Los Angeles for school (UCLA, Study of Religion) he settled in Venice, California, and trained his camera on his friends and neighbors. Exchanging the cumbersome 4x5 field camera for manual 35mm Nikons, Brian started shooting street protests and documentary photography. In 1997, he joined the staff of the Rafu Shimpo [Los Angeles Japanese Daily News], a bilingual daily newspaper serving the Japanese and Asian American communities. Brian has continued to photograph events, news and people of the Japanese American community in Los Angeles. In 2000, Brian moved to his great grandfather's house in Gardena, California and started a freelance commercial photography business. He transitioned from film to digital in 2005, finally adopting contemporary digital photo techniques in place of traditional darkroom work.
